Privacy Policy
Effective October 31, 2026
This policy explains what information Meetyr LLC ("Meetyr", "we", "us") collects when you use the Meetyr app and this website, how we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have. If you have questions, email support@meetyr.com.
The short version: we collect what's needed to run a community rating app: your account, your profile, your location while you use the app (and, only if you turn on visit features, the businesses you visit), the ratings you give and receive, and what you share in parties. We don't sell your information, we don't show ads, and we don't track you across other apps or websites. The iPhone and Android apps contain no analytics or advertising tools; our website and the web version of Meetyr count visits without cookies.
Information you give us
- Account: your email address and password, or, if you use Sign in with Apple or Google, what Apple or Google shares with us (below). Passwords are stored only in encrypted (hashed) form.
- Sign in with Apple: Apple shares an ID for your Apple account, your email address (it can be an Apple "Hide My Email" address that forwards to you) and, the first time, your name if you choose to share it. We use the name to fill in your display name, which you can change. We also keep a token from Apple, used only to end Meetyr's access to your Apple ID when you delete your account.
- Sign in with Google: Google shares your name, email address and profile picture, and an ID for your Google account. Meetyr gets no other access to your Google account.
- Profile: your display name, @handle, profile photo, whether you're a person or a business, a category, and a short "About" text.
- Ratings: the thumbs-up or thumbs-down ratings you give, and when you gave them.
- Rating requests: when you rate a person more than 1 mile away, your confirmation that you're rating your interaction with them, and their answer.
- Private profile: whether your profile is private, and, for each rating you give, whether it was private when you gave it.
- Parties: the parties you throw or join, the questions and answer options you write, your votes, your comments, the photos, videos and voice clips you add to questions, the invitations you send, get or decline, and reports about party content.
- Party comments: in parties hosted by a person, you can comment under a question while it's open, up to 140 characters, with no replies, and up to 100 comments a day. Comments can't include an @handle or the full name of someone in the party. The party's members see your comments with your name. You or the host can remove one. When someone reports a comment, it's hidden from everyone but you until Meetyr's team looks at it, unless that person has already used their 50 reports for the day.
- Question photos, videos and voice clips: you can add one to a question you ask. Before a photo or video leaves your phone, the app removes its location and other saved details: photos are saved again as a smaller copy, and videos keep only their first 30 seconds, with sound. Voice clips are recorded in the app, up to 30 seconds. We store them privately, and only members of that question's party, and Meetyr's team, can open them. They stay with the question after it closes. A report hides one the same way as a comment, and Meetyr's team looks at it. For each video, the app also takes a still picture every 3 seconds and we store them privately with it, for automatic safety checks that aren't switched on yet. No member can open them, and they're deleted with the video.
- Safety reports: when you report a member or flag a rating you received, the reason you choose and any details you write. When you report something in a party (the party, an invitation, a question, its photo, video or voice clip, or a comment), the reason you pick, such as "It's about a person" or "It shows a person", and a copy of what you reported. We also keep a record of members you block.
- Business verification and claims: when a business asks to be verified, claims a listing, or changes its address, the details it sends us (such as its website, a contact name and phone number, the person's role and how we can confirm them) and our record of when and how we checked. We don't collect ID documents.
- Messages to us: anything you send to our support address.
- Dialogues and discussions: the messages you write, the questions you ask there and the answers you give, who they're with and when, and a discussion's topic.
- Monologue: the entries you write, and when you wrote or deleted them.
- Party scores: if a party's host turns them on and you join in, that you joined, each thumb you give and get, who gave it and when, and your score in that party.
Information collected when you use the app
- Location: with your permission, your device's location while the app is open. We use it to show you people and businesses nearby, to show others how far away you are, and to place you on the Discover map (see below). We store your most recent location, not a history of where you've been, except where you bump, touch or scan with another member (see below). The app uses location in the background only if you turn on visit features (see below).
- Home area: when you set up a personal profile, we ask where you're located (a ZIP code, or your current location). We keep only a rough area about a mile across and its town and ZIP code, never your address. While your distance is hidden, Discover shows you to people near this area instead of near where you are. You can change it in Edit profile.
- Ratings you receive: your score and the number of ratings you've received.
- QR code: a random code linked to your profile so others can scan it in person to rate you. Each code works for one scan; you get a new one after every scan. We keep the scan itself only for the 10 minutes the person scanning has to rate you from it; the meeting it makes is kept as described under "Bumps, touches and scans".
- Bumps, touches and scans: when you bump phones or touch iPhones with another member while the app is open, or one of you scans the other's QR code, we record when and exactly where it happened, so the two of you can rate each other for 24 hours. Your phone's motion readings stay on your phone. We keep who you met, when and how while your account exists, and the exact place for 1 year, to look into reports of made-up meetings.
- Camera: used only when you take a profile photo, scan a QR code, or take a photo or video for a party question. We store only the profile photo you choose and the photos and videos you post to a party.
- Microphone: used only while you record a video or a voice clip for a party question. Only a clip you add to a question is stored.
- Photo library: used only when you choose a profile photo, or a photo or video for a party question. Only the one you choose is uploaded.
- Notifications: only if you turn them on. Visit reminders, and a "Remind me tomorrow" after you scan a business's code, are set up by your phone itself. Party notifications are push notifications we send (iPhone only): if you turn them on in Me → Party notifications, we save your phone's push token with your account. They tell you who invited you to a party, that there's a new question in a party (with the party's name), and when your question closes, never a question or an answer. A verified business that turns on push also gets notices about its business party. Turning them off, signing out or deleting your account removes the token.
- Security check: on the screens where you sign up, sign in, ask for a new code or reset your password, and when you delete your account with a password, Cloudflare Turnstile checks that you're a person, not a bot. For that check, Cloudflare receives technical details about your device and connection, such as your IP address.
- When you use the app, we record which version of the app you're using, with what you create (ratings, votes, questions, comments, photos, videos, voice clips and reports), and each time you open the app signed in. We use it to fix problems and to know which rules applied.
We don't use advertising identifiers or tracking across other companies' apps and websites. meetyr.com and the web version of Meetyr count visits with Cloudflare Web Analytics, which uses no cookies, doesn't identify you, and doesn't follow you to other websites. The iPhone and Android apps don't use it.
Visit reminders and "Let businesses know when I'm there"
Both are off unless you turn them on in Me → Visits, and you never need either one to rate. Business accounts don't have them.
- How a visit is noticed: if you allow location "Always", your phone watches the 19 businesses nearest you and notices when you stay at one. Your phone does the watching. When you've moved about a mile, it asks us for the businesses near its new spot; we use that location only to answer and don't store it. With location "While using", the app checks only when you open it at a business.
- Visit notes: when you visit one of those businesses, we keep a note of which business and when you arrived and left, never your exact location. Notes are deleted after 24 hours, and turning visit reminders off erases yours. A note lets you rate a listed business for 12 hours after you leave.
- Reminders: after a visit of at least 5 minutes, one notification asks how it was. At most one per business a day, and none once you've rated it. While "Rate from the reminder" is on (it starts on with visit reminders), a reminder about one business names it, on the lock screen too, and lets you rate it there. Turn it off in Me → Visits and reminders never name the place. A "Remind me tomorrow" names the business too.
- Letting businesses know: if you turn this on, a verified business on Meetyr sees your name and photo once you've been there a few minutes, if your phone's location clearly puts you at that business, and for 12 hours after. Where businesses are close together, only the one you rate after your visit sees you. It never sees your thumb or where else you go, but a rating you make while it can see you may give your thumb away, since scores move within minutes. A verified business can also turn on arrival alerts, a notification that "A Meetyr member is here now", which never names you. Turning this off hides you from businesses right away.
- Places we never watch: sensitive places, such as health care, places of worship, bars, dispensaries, pawn shops, lawyers and adult stores. We never sell visit information or use it for ads.
What other members can see
- Your display name, @handle, profile photo, person or business, category, Meetyr score and number of ratings.
- Your "About" text, unless you hide it in Edit profile.
- How far away you are (for example, "0.4 mi"), unless you turn this off in Edit profile.
- Where you are on the Discover map. People appear only as a rough area (about a quarter mile across), never their exact spot or address. Turning off your distance in Edit profile also takes you off the map.
- Business accounts are always public. A business's About, distance and business location are shown to everyone. A business sets its location by entering an address or using its current location; it doesn't follow the owner's phone. Businesses that go to their customers instead appear as a rough area, like people.
- That you rated them. When you rate someone, they see your name in their Feed, but never whether you gave a thumbs up or a thumbs down. Names show 3 at a time. Scores move within about 15 minutes of each rating, so someone watching their score may be able to tell how a person they know just rated them, for example after a QR scan or a request they confirmed. A private profile shows "A private member" instead of your name. A person's score shows once ratings from 3 people count in it; a business's from its first rating.
- Private profiles. A person can make their profile private in Edit profile. Whoever they rate then sees "A private member" instead of their name, photo and profile, and ratings made while private stay that way even after it's turned off. A private profile is still shown in Discover and Search and can still be rated. Private members can't send rating requests (they rate people within 1 mile or by QR code), turning it on withdraws any requests still waiting, and businesses never see them in "Here now". We can still see who made every rating, and whether it was up or down, to keep Meetyr safe.
- Erasers. Each person (not business) has one eraser. It takes every rating they received in the last 7 days out of their score at once. We keep an erased rating on file, marked as erased. Profiles of people say that a score can leave out a week of erased ratings.
- Requests to rate beyond a mile. If you rate a person more than 1 mile away, they're asked to confirm they had an interaction with you before the rating counts. They see your name, never your rating. Businesses don't confirm ratings.
- Legends. Legends are historical figures and storybook characters you can rate for fun. They aren't members and can't rate anyone. When your rating of a Legend counts, your name, @handle and photo appear in its "Rated by" list, which other members can see, but never your thumb. You aren't listed if your profile was private when you rated or is private now, and members you've blocked, or who blocked you, don't see you there. A Legend's score moves right away, so someone watching it may be able to tell how you rated it. We keep each Legend rating with your account (your thumb, the question and whether your answer was right) and delete it if you delete your account.
- Parties. Parties are invitation only (a business party can also be joined with its QR code), and what's in one is seen only by its members. In a party hosted by a person, members see your name, @handle and photo, even if your profile is private, and the questions, comments, photos, videos and voice clips you add. Whoever asks a question picks Public or Anonymous, and it can't be changed after. On a Public question, the person who asked and the host see each vote as it comes in, and everyone in the party sees each vote once it closes. On an Anonymous question, no member, not even the asker or the host, sees who voted or what anyone picked, only the totals. In a business party, every question is Anonymous: the business sees your name and photo in its customer list ("A private member" if your profile is private), never how you answered, and only totals from at least 5 people once a question closes. Customers never see each other. A party's activity shows in the Feeds under the same rules. Meetyr keeps each vote with your account, Anonymous ones too; only Meetyr's team can see who voted how. Nothing in a party counts toward anyone's Meetyr score.
- That you're visiting a business, only if you turn on "Let businesses know when I'm there" (see above).
- Dialogues and discussions: only the people in one can see its messages, under their names, and a verified business can be one of them. You can be in a discussion with someone you're not connected to, if a connection of yours started it.
- Monologue: only you can see your entries in the app. They aren't end-to-end encrypted, so Meetyr could reach them if the law requires it. We don't read them otherwise.
- Party scores: your score shows only in that party, to members who've joined in and rated you, and it never counts toward your Meetyr score. A score needs 3 ratings, so it can't show until 4 people have joined in. You rate your interaction with each person once, and it can't be changed. In party scores, Meetyr never shows who gave which thumb. The other person sees your name, not your thumb. In a private group, and especially a small one, members may be able to work out who gave which thumb from how a score moves. Meetyr's team can see who gave which thumb in party scores, and uses that only to check a report. Each check is recorded.
The app never shows anyone how a particular member rated them. Votes on a Public party question are different (see Parties above).
Businesses Meetyr lists from open data
So members can find and rate local businesses before they join, Meetyr lists some businesses itself, marked "Not on Meetyr yet". Their names, kinds of business, locations and street addresses come from open map data published by the Overture Maps Foundation, which combines data from Meta, Microsoft, Foursquare and others (see Data credits). These listings aren't connected to Meetyr or endorsed by the businesses.
- We list storefront businesses only. We leave out homes and businesses run from home or that travel to their customers, health care, places of worship, schools and childcare, government offices, and listings that look like one person's practice.
- We don't import phone numbers, email addresses, websites or social media accounts. A listing's street address is shown on its profile, so an owner can be sure which location is theirs.
- Members can rate a listed business within 1 mile of it, or for 12 hours after a visit noticed with visit reminders. The first rating gives the listing an account that nobody can sign in to until its owner claims it.
- If a business claims its listing, it sees who rated it, including before it joined (private members show as "A private member"), but never anyone's thumb.
- To ask us to fix or remove a listing, tap the shield on its profile or email support@meetyr.com. We remove listings quickly if they're someone's home or a person rather than a business. We don't remove a listing because of its ratings.
How we use your information
- To create and run your account, and to sign you in.
- To show nearby profiles, calculate scores and display ratings.
- To run the parties you join, and to send the notifications you turn on.
- To send account emails, such as confirmation and password reset codes.
- To remind you to rate a business you visited and, if you choose, let it know you're there.
- To count, in totals only, how many members sign up, are active and rate, so we can run and improve Meetyr.
- To keep Meetyr safe: reviewing reports, enforcing our Terms of Use, checking that sign-ups and sign-ins come from people rather than bots, and preventing abuse or fraud.
- To respond when you contact us, and to meet legal obligations.
An automatic word filter checks every message. Meetyr's team reads a message only if someone reports it or the law requires it, and then only that message.
Who we share it with
We don't sell or rent your personal information. We share it only with:
- Service providers that run Meetyr for us under contract: Supabase (database, sign-in, and storage for profile photos and for the photos, videos and voice clips you add to questions), Resend (sending account emails, and alerting our team when a report comes in, with a copy of what was reported), Cloudflare (counting visits to our website and the web version, without cookies, and the security check described above), and Expo (delivering app updates; it receives a random install number, never your name or account, and an error message if an update fails to start; and, if you turn on notifications we send, passing them to Apple to deliver: it receives your phone's push token and each notification's text), and Apple (delivering notifications to your iPhone). They may only use your information to provide their services to us.
- Apple or Google, if you sign in with them: they confirm it's you when you sign in, and again when you delete your account, and we ask them to end Meetyr's access when you do. What they do with your Apple or Google account is covered by their own privacy policies.
- Address lookup: when a business enters its address, or you enter your ZIP code, it is looked up by Apple's maps service in the iPhone app, or by OpenStreetMap on the web, to find where it is on the map.
- Other members, limited to the profile information described above and what you share in parties (see Parties above).
- Authorities, when required by law, or when needed to protect someone's safety or the rights of Meetyr and its members.
- A buyer or successor, if Meetyr LLC is ever involved in a merger or sale, under this same policy.
Your choices
- Edit your profile at any time in the app under Me → Edit profile.
- Hide your About text or your distance in Edit profile (not available for business accounts, which are always public). Hiding your distance also takes you off the Discover map.
- Location: turn location access off in your iPhone's Settings. Nearby features need it to work.
- Visits: turn visit reminders and "Let businesses know when I'm there" on or off under Me → Visits. Turning visit reminders off erases your visit notes. You can also change Meetyr's location access from "Always" to "While using" in your iPhone's Settings.
- Parties: leave a party, or remove a question or comment you posted. Leaving takes your questions and comments with you.
- Pause your account under Me → Safety & reporting → Suspend my account.
- Delete your account in the app under Me → Safety & reporting → Delete my account (or from the paused screen if you've suspended it). You can also email support@meetyr.com from the address you signed up with.
Keeping and deleting information
We keep your information while your account exists. When you delete your account, it's deleted at once and can't be restored: your profile, photo, location, QR code, visit notes, push tokens, and the ratings you gave and received are removed from Meetyr, and no one can see them. If you signed in with Apple, we also end Meetyr's access to your Apple ID; if you signed in with Google, the app asks Google to end Meetyr's access. In parties, your questions (with their comments), your comments, the photos, videos and voice clips you added, and your invitations are deleted (the reports you made are kept for 1 year, see below), and your votes in parties hosted by a person stay only in totals, linked to no one. A party you host passes to the longest-standing member who can host it, or is deleted if nobody else is in it, and a business party is deleted with the business. A rating you gave stops counting toward another member's score at the first score update after midnight Pacific time, not at the moment you leave. Until then only the number remains, without your name. Copies may remain in our secure backups for up to 90 days before they're removed. We may keep limited records longer when the law requires it or to resolve a safety report. Visit notes are deleted after 24 hours. The exact place of a bump, touch or scan is deleted after 1 year.
In parties, a question keeps its votes, comments and photo, video or voice clip after it closes. It's deleted when its asker or the host removes it, when the asker leaves or is removed from the party, or when the party is deleted. Your comments are also deleted when you leave or are removed from a party. When a question is removed, its photo, video or voice clip is hidden from everyone, but for now we keep the file, as we do for one that never made it onto a question; it's deleted 90 days after its owner deletes their account, or 1 year after if it was reported. A photo, video or voice clip Meetyr's team removes after a report is deleted 1 year later, unless the law requires us to keep it longer.
We keep a locked copy of your account, and of everything deleted with it, for 90 days after you delete it, so we can look into safety reports, misuse and legal requests. No member can see it. Only Meetyr's team can open it, only for safety or legal reasons, and each time is logged. It doesn't include your password or sign-in tokens. Reports made about you or by you, and what they're about, are kept for 1 year after you delete your account, with your name, @handle and the date you deleted it, so someone can't escape a report by deleting their account. After 90 days the rest of the copy is permanently deleted, unless the law requires us to keep it longer, for example for a police or court request. We email you when the copy is deleted.
When your profile photo is changed or removed, we keep the old one locked for 1 year, then delete it. Only Meetyr's team can open it, and a police or court request or a legal hold can keep it longer.
When a business deletes its business party, we keep a locked copy of it for 90 days, or longer where the law requires, as we do for a deleted account. The same goes for a party its host deletes.
Dialogues and discussions have no time limit. A dialogue ends when either person leaves, and a discussion ends when fewer than 2 people are left. What was in it is then kept locked for 90 days and deleted. A reported message is kept for 1 year. When you delete your account, your messages and answers leave dialogues and discussions at once and go into the locked copy. If that leaves one other person, they keep their own messages for 90 days, and then it's deleted.
Monologue entries last until you delete them. A deleted entry leaves your list at once, stays locked for 90 days and is then deleted, unless a legal hold keeps it longer. When you delete your account, your entries go into its locked copy for 90 days.
Party scores last as long as the party. You can stop any time: your score is hidden, and the thumbs you gave and got stay counted. The same goes if you leave. When a party is deleted, they go into its locked copy for 90 days, or longer where the law requires. When you delete your account, your thumbs go into its locked copy for 90 days, and leave other members' scores at the next batch of ratings.
If a business that claimed its listing deletes its account, the listing stays on Meetyr with its ratings, and support can hand it to a new owner.
When a listed business is closed, removed, or replaced because its owner chose to start fresh, we hide it and keep its ratings on file, not shown and not counted in any score, for moderation and legal records.
Security
Information is sent over encrypted connections and stored with access controls that let each member reach only their own private data. No system is perfectly secure, but we work to protect your information and will notify you if a breach affects you, as the law requires. Messages are encrypted on the way to our servers and while stored there, but they aren't end-to-end encrypted, so Meetyr's systems can read them.
Age requirement
Meetyr is for people 18 and older. On iPhone, where Apple says the law requires it, Apple asks you to share your age range before you can make an account. The answer stays on your phone: Meetyr uses it only to decide whether you can join, and doesn't keep it. You also tick a box to confirm you're 18 or older when you sign up, and we keep the date you ticked it. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone younger. If you believe someone under 18 has an account, contact us and we'll delete it.
Your privacy rights
Depending on where you live (for example California, other U.S. states or the European Union), you may have the right to access, correct, delete or receive a copy of your information, and to object to certain uses. Email support@meetyr.com to make a request. We'll respond within the time the law requires and won't treat you differently for using these rights.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top. For significant changes, we'll let you know in the app or by email.
